Chillum Records Access at a Glance
Public status does not mean that every source is searchable by name or downloadable without limits. Chillum public records are split among Prince George’s County, Maryland agencies, and courts. An online index often provides only finding details. The custodian supplies the actual file, certified copy, or explanation of a lawful withholding.
| Record Set | Custodian | Online Index | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deeds, mortgages, plats | Circuit Clerk Land Records | MDLandRec; surviving deeds from 1712 | Public index and images with free account; paid copies |
| Court cases | Maryland Judiciary and local clerks | Case Search; Circuit civil from 1986, criminal from 1982 | Free metadata; file and certified-copy requests |
| Assessment and parcel data | SDAT and M-NCPPC | Daily SDAT database and PGAtlas | Free address, account, map, and GIS access |
| Birth, death, marriage, divorce | Health Department, DVR, Circuit Clerk | No general current vital index verified | Eligibility and product-specific rules |
| Probate and estates | Register of Wills and Orphans’ Court | Estate search and office records | Protected portions excluded; copies by request |
| Custody, business, licenses | County, DPSCS, Business Express, licensing boards | Phone or statewide portals | Current scope varies by system |
Maryland law closes or limits many categories, including juvenile, sealed, shielded, and expunged court material; protected adoption and family records; medical and personnel files; confidential voter identifiers; and DMV personal data. Safe at Home can substitute or shield an eligible participant’s residential address. A blank or substitute address may therefore reflect a legal protection rather than an error.
Chillum Deeds in MDLandRec
The Prince George’s Land Records Division keeps deeds, mortgages, releases, leases, land agreements, financing statements, and plats. Staff provide access but do not conduct title searches. The official MDLandRec repository requires a free account and supports party or volume searches. Historical routes reach surviving deed books from 1712, although the modern online party-index start year was not published in the reviewed sources.
| Search control | Use | Format or choice |
|---|---|---|
| Individual or corporation | Party search | Person or entity name |
| Name match | Broaden spelling | Is, Begins With, Ends With, Contains, Fuzzy, Soundex |
| Party type | Role in transfer | Grantor or grantee |
| Date range | Limit recording period | From and to dates |
| Liber and folio | Direct image access | Book and page pair |
A grantor transfers an interest; a grantee receives one. Recorded results can show their names and roles, instrument type, recording date, liber and folio, legal description, prior deed reference, and a linked volume image. The clerk’s counter at 14701 Governor Oden Bowie Drive in Upper Marlboro remains the fallback for self-research and copies.
Three Property Systems, Three Jobs
SDAT Real Property Data Search, PGAtlas, and MDLandRec answer different questions. SDAT finds a parcel by street address, assessment account, or map reference. It shows owner and mailing information after the parcel is found, but it cannot search Prince George’s County by owner name. PGAtlas adds boundaries, zoning, imagery, districts, and planning context. MDLandRec supplies the recorded deed chain.
- Search the Chillum street address in SDAT and omit suffixes or directions if needed.
- Record the assessment account, premises and mailing addresses, map-grid-parcel data, and deed liber and folio.
- Review PGAtlas for geographic context, then enter the liber and folio in MDLandRec to open the recorded volume.
- Follow prior deed references backward when a longer ownership history is needed.
This bridge matters because Prince George’s MDLandRec does not accept a street-address search. Also, a tax mailing address is not proof of residence, and SDAT’s principal-residence flag describes tax treatment rather than a person’s current presence.
Note: A current assessment card is useful evidence, but it is not a complete title history or a county tax bill.
Chillum Court Records and Dockets
Maryland Judiciary Case Search publishes public docket metadata after an agreement and CAPTCHA. Filters include participant name, party type, case type, court system, county, filing dates, and case number. A partial surname uses its first letter followed by %; a partial first name may end with that wildcard. Broad searches stop at 500 results, so Prince George’s County, dates, court, and case type help prevent false matches.
Prince George’s Circuit automated coverage begins July 1, 1986 for civil matters and in 1982 for criminal matters. Results may include parties and roles, case number, filing date, status, hearings, attorneys, docket events, charges, dispositions, and judgments. Juvenile, expunged, sealed, shielded, and other protected matters may be absent. A no-result does not prove that no case or older file exists.
The District Court at 4990 Rhode Island Avenue in Hyattsville serves nearby users, while Circuit Court files are in Upper Marlboro. Ask the correct clerk for a named docket entry, plain copy, certified copy, or archived-file route. Copies cost $0.50 per page, with $5 added for certification or $10 for exemplification.
Vital Records Have Separate Gates
Birth and death certificates are not open name directories. The Prince George’s County Health Department issues appointment-only local products to eligible applicants, while the Maryland Division of Vital Records handles state products by mail, lobby, and approved online channels. Birth eligibility can include the person named, a named parent, a qualifying guardian, surviving spouse, or an authorized representative with notarized permission. Death copies require the stated relationship or direct tangible interest.
The Circuit Clerk is the source for a Prince George’s marriage certified copy and divorce decree. DVR’s divorce verification only confirms a reported event; it is not the decree. The marriage form needs both names exactly as recorded and the exact date. The clerk page and form conflict between $5.50 and $5, so confirm the amount before mailing. Historical indexes and transferred series belong to the Maryland State Archives.
Eligibility warning. An index mention does not grant access to a modern certified vital record, and a failed certificate search does not rule out every spelling, date, or jurisdiction.
Chillum Public Records Custodians
Because Chillum is not a municipality, there is no Chillum clerk or recorder. These Prince George’s offices supply the main counter channels behind the public records portals.

301-780-2253
Counter hours for Land Records and Circuit Court are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call first when a file may be archived or a certified copy has special handling requirements.
Chillum Custody Record Boundaries
County and state custody systems are not interchangeable. Prince George’s County provides a telephone inmate locator at 301-952-7102 rather than a verified public web roster. The Maryland DPSCS locator covers current Division of Correction, Patuxent Institution, and some short-sentenced people in local facilities. It omits former custody and some short stays.
The official state locator image below shows the first-name and last-name entry point. Its narrow scope means a court docket, county call, or federal locator may answer a different question.

A locator result establishes only the current included status reported by that system. Charges and dispositions belong to Judiciary records, while custody notifications use a separate service.
Chillum License and Business Records
Chillum has no municipal business-license registry. Maryland supplies two useful statewide layers. Occupational and Professional Licensing routes users to board searches and a universal last-name option. A board result may expose license type, number, status, dates, business address, and discipline when that board publishes those fields.
The captured licensing gateway shows the official board links used to select the right regulator.

Always treat the issuing board as the primary source for a credential’s present status.
Maryland Business Express searches entity and trade names, filings, and resident-agent details. The official search screen below helps distinguish an entity filing from a professional credential.

A resident agent is a service contact, not necessarily the daily operator or beneficial owner, and good standing is an administrative status rather than an endorsement.
Terms Behind Chillum Record Access
Several labels prevent costly requests and mistaken conclusions. They describe the role of a portal or office, not the truth of every detail in a record.
- Index
- A finding aid with names, dates, numbers, or references. It may not contain the document image.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the legal custodian for official use.
- Custodian
- The agency or official responsible for the requested existing record.
- Exemption
- A statutory basis that requires or permits an agency to withhold protected material.
Requesters should separate index discovery from document proof. A case entry, parcel card, or entity result can point to a source file without replacing it.
Chillum Copy Fees to Check
Fees differ by custodian and product. Land Records lists $2 for an ordinary deed, assignment, or other instrument; $5 for a deed of trust or mortgage; $7 for a certified other instrument; and $10 for a certified deed of trust or mortgage. Plats cost $3 at the counter or $5 by mail, while certified plats cost $5 at the counter or $7 by mail.
Vital products follow another schedule. State birth and death certificates are $10, while the county counter charges $25 plus a $2.50 card fee. DVR marriage and divorce-verification products are $12. Ask for an estimate before a broad file request, especially when page counts, staff search time, or certification are uncertain.
Maryland Records That Stay Restricted
The Maryland Public Information Act opens existing government records but preserves defined privacy and legal boundaries. Mandatory exemptions include medical and personnel records, trade secrets, privileged attorney material, and confidential financial information. Investigatory records and internal memoranda may fall under discretionary exemptions. Court rules separately protect juvenile, adoption, sealed, shielded, and expunged material.
Safe at Home gives eligible threatened residents and survivors a substitute home, work, and school address. Agencies generally must accept it, voter-list copies suppress a participant’s residence, and advance deed shielding may be available. The program cannot erase an address that was already public.
Challenging a Maryland Records Decision
A denial must state its reason, legal authority, and challenge rights. A requester may seek confidential mediation from the Public Access Ombudsman. If mediation does not resolve an eligible dispute, a complaint to the Public Information Act Compliance Board generally must follow within 30 days of the Ombudsman’s final determination. The Board can review wrongful denial, failure to respond, certain allegedly unreasonable fees over $350, and specified bad-faith disputes. Court review is also available.
Narrowing a request can be faster than appealing when the agency identifies an overly broad date range or unclear record class. Keep the original request, delivery receipt, estimates, correspondence, and denial notice so the record of the dispute is complete.
Requesting Chillum Public Records
The Maryland Public Information Act, General Provisions §4-101 et seq., lets any member of the public request existing state or local agency records. Prince George’s County accepts requests through its MPIA information and request channel. Agencies normally act within 30 days. Expected work beyond 10 working days should bring written notice of timing, estimated fees, and the reason for delay. The first two hours of search and preparation are free; reasonable later costs may apply.
- Identify the office that already keeps the record. MPIA does not require an agency to create a new report or compilation.
- Describe the record class, names, exact address, case or activity number, spelling, and useful date range.
- Choose inspection or copies and ask for native electronic format when useful. Submit through the custodian’s portal, email, form, or mail channel.
- Request an advance estimate above a chosen amount and ask for segregable, nonexempt portions if part of a file is protected.
- Track receipt. If denied, request the statutory basis and preserve the response for mediation, Board review, or court.
Lawful use. Open records support family history, estate work, consumer safety, and civic oversight. Never use personal information to stalk, harass, threaten, or harm anyone.
